ZANESVILLE, OH – The Animal Shelter Society just got a boost to help keep pets safe.

The shelter was awarded $2,667 from the Muskingum County Community Foundation through the PAW-sitive Reunite Project.
The money is being used to microchip animals in their care, which helps reunite lost pets with their families faster and more reliably.

“We applied for the MCCF Spring Grant, and we were rewarded that.
It’s for new microchip scanners and microchips.
It’s really important to get these animals back into their homes.
That’s one of the best things you can do.
You have to have dog tags.
You can go downtown to get them or out to the K9 Center.
But a microchip is there and that’s how we get them back.
If it wasn’t for local supporters like the Muskingum County Community Foundation, we wouldn’t be able to take care of the over 100 animals in our building right now.” Animal Shelter Society Executive Director, April Gibson said.

The shelter is also making it easier to bring home a furry friend this summer with their “Meow-velous Time to Adopt” special.
The special offers discounted cat adoptions through the month of June.

“Cats six months and older will be $35. For kittens, under six months, it will be $45. That is a steal.
These animals are spayed, neutered, have flea and tick treatment, and they’re microchipped.
Our cats are all microchipped here.
They have all their vaccines, all of that is completely done and that’s part of that fee.” Gibson said.

The shelter says last week’s Pickleball for Paws fundraiser was a hit, and they’re sending a big thank you to everyone who continues to support their mission.
